Behind the Scenes of ‘A Slice Of Life: Every Person Has A Story’
1. What gave you the idea of writing your short story collection “A Slice of Life: Every Person Has A Story?”
I write something every day, and short stories are my favourite form. In a week, I typically write about two-three short stories. When I won the Author of the Month in one of the literary platforms for my story, the idea of compiling some of my best stories in a book came to me.
For the stories themselves, I take inspiration from real life. Truth is stranger than fiction, and the more you observe people and things around you, the more stories you will get to narrate. For instance, the inspiration for ‘Parched’- one of the stories in my book, came from the dried-up basil plant on my terrace.
2. Tell us something about the book. What is it about?
The premise of the book in one sentence is ‘Don’t Judge A Book by its Cover.’ Every person is unique, and the common everyday people have a lot going on in their lives. My book captures the various shades of human behaviour.
3. What is your favourite part of the book?
Very difficult to pick one particular favourite. The book is broadly divided into three sections, and it is the six stories in the third section, ‘What A Relationship’ holds a special place in my writing corner. I am proud to have written some of those stories there.
4. How was your journey of writing this book?
When I took up a Creative Writing Course at Stanford in 2018 alongside my corporate job, I knew that I would be an author. It took patience, persistence, dedication, determination, and quite a lot of reading and writing from then to reach here.
It took me about five months to write, edit and publish this book. I learned during the journey that editing takes more time than writing, and never really finishes.
